Word Lesson Plan

Overview

By the time students get to 6th, 7th or 8th grade they usually have a basic working knowledge of how to use Microsoft Word. For that reason, these lessons are considered to be a review, or at worst an addition to their skills, for most students. For those students needing more help, access to a tutorial is provided as well as much more help from the teacher.

These lessons cover the following skills: typing, copy, cut, paste, use of the menu bar, inserting clip art, columns, spell check, and formatting text.

Teacher

The unit of lessons is briefly introduced by the teacher.
The teacher will demonstrate to students how to:

use the Start Menu to start Word.
how to properly save a document on the student's "H" drive
use the website to find your lessons for Word.

Students will work at their own pace through this section of lessons. If the class as a whole encounters problems, then the specific problem can be addressed with the whole class. Usually that will not occur. The one exception is WdAssg6, The Spell Check. It is better to review this with the entire class and show the class the technique of right clicking on the word and using the suggestions of the computer, rather than actually going to Tools, Spell Check. The problem with that is that students will "Add"  misspelled words to the built in dictionary.

When students finish the lesson they will get a grade from the teacher right then.
Students are expected to finish one assignment or more a day. If finished before the rest of the class, students should see the teacher for further instructions.

Student

Students will begin with Word Assignment 1 and progress to Word Assignment 6.
When they finish one assignment, they have the teacher grade the assignment then.
